Some of the themes of this third studio album, released in 2002:
The Storms of Life: God’s aim in allowing us to go through storms is that we come out stronger than when we went in. He’s making us into overcomers by giving us things to overcome. Storms nourish courage. If we want comfort we’ll never learn to be courageous. Courage is formed in times of warfare not welfare. Basically, we need the very storms from which we want to run.
Worship: Storms provoke a dependency on God. They peel away our concept relationship with Him. We stop living on second-hand spiritual credit cards and borrowed convictions and discover God really is our ‘big dad’. We are enjoyed by Him and He wants us to be His problem. The strength of the anchor is found in the storm.
Healing: God never works through us until He has worked in us. It’s been mostly in my times of brokenness that God has done some amazing physical healings such as epilepsy, osteoporosis, deafness, asthma, kidney stones and many others. Be assured, God likes using broken things. I long for the church to realise that healing is part of the Great Commission. Jesus told us to pray that God’s will would be done on earth as it is in heaven – and there’s no sickness in heaven!
Revival: God wants to bring a Great Awakening across this nation. Before that can happen there will be many storms, both in and outside the church because revival means upheaval.
Review
“This worship album reflects Joe’s Celtic/Irish roots, with musicians drawn from Iona and Eden’s Bridge. However, I think that he’s also been listening to some good old 60’s & 70’s pop, as several songs have that uncluttered, yet still stylish, feel about them. Take, for instance, “The Wonder” and “Still, I’m Trusting”. both have been carefully crafted and have that perfect warmth from the finished song. Joe’s healing ministry has seen him travel the length and breadth of the country and the song “There Is Healing” is the perfect vehicle to carry the message of God’s healing powers. “Lord of All Creation” is uncomplicated, yet draws the listener into the wonderment of God’s creation with ease. I loved the sounds of the pipes on “Follow You” – a really joyous song with a little Celtic reel thrown in for good measure too. “Eye of the Storm” contains so many songs that had me really thanking God for all the goodness He has poured into my life, despite some sorrow, and not many albums do that so completely. Well done, Joe, this is superb.” 10/10. (February 2002, Album of the Month)
“Got to confess I’ve been an admirer of Joe’s songwriting for years. It’s always amazed me that he isn’t hugely popular in the same manner as Martyn Joseph because he has the knack for combining beautiful, moving, spiritual insights with gorgeous melodies and as a live performer he is sensitive and humorous. He’s been through plenty of trials and received comfort from God and these days his ministry is bringing the comfort he has received to others. Whether ministering in local church or leading worship in a congregation, one thing is inescapable. Joe King writes exquisite songs and on this independently released album he is backed by musicians from Iona and Eden’s Bridge. That doesn’t mean that ‘Eye Of The Storm’ is a Celtic fest although “Don’t Give In” has a Terl Bryant-driven groove and some nice pipes from Troy Donockley and a lyric to encourage every believer to rise above life’s challenges. Elsewhere these songs of worship, healing and restoration range from the beautiful, lilting, peaceful “Resting In The Arms Of Jesus” and “It’s Your Presence” through to the rousing “Rise Up” and “I Won’t Bow Down”. This album shows Joe in upbeat mood bringing encouragement to the Church. Listen to the album and then book him for your congregation. God is using him and it’s something special.” Mike Rimmer
